"It-is" is simply "è" in Italian. So you will perhaps hear "è" and then a word from the table below.

When an Italian preposition, in the table below, is followed by one of the Italian forms of "the" they come together to form a new word.
Put the two words together like this example "inl'" then;
- Any "l" in the middle is replaced by "ll"
- "in" is replaced by "ne"
- "di" is replaced by "de"
So "inl'" becomes "nell'" which is correct.
The deravations of "in" and "on" are the most often used. For a full explaination see The Articles page. Be aware that Italians are very forgiving of foreigners who don't join the words in this way and also foreigners who don't use the right form of the article "the".
