Irrational Languages

Italian spelling is easy because it is almost totally logical. Say a word correctly in Italian and you know how to spell it. Read a word written in Italian and from the letters you know how to pronounce it. A spelling test is a ridiculous idea for an Italian however English people often cannot spell English words and they blame this on bad education, but it is not the fault of the education system it is the fault of the "spelling system".
A long time ago we seriously used XIV to represent 14 and XVI to represent 16 and a whole bunch of other stupid number representations. In those days I suspect they blamed difficulties with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division on the bad education system.
English verbs are easy because it’s almost totally logical. A verb test is a ridiculous idea for an English person however Italians often do not know the correct form of their own verbs and they blame this on bad education, but it is not the fault of the education system it is the fault of the "verb system".
If linguistics was science or mathematics they would probably improve the languages. But since they are not, they struggle to teach these archaic systems and blame the students and the education system.
Esperanto has elegantly solved both problems but unfortunately I am a former British person living in Italy so I have to learn Italian but I am determined to enjoy it hence this website!
P.S. When I first wrote this I wrote "eligantly" which is closer to how the word is pronounced but then the spelling checker told me it was "elegantly". In English we use spelling checkers a lot.
