Questions - Domanda

As in English there are a number of words used to enquire and there are similarities between English and Italian. Use the menu to the left to look at the English and Italian "interrogative" words.

There is a page for each word except where words are connected in which case they share a page.

Each page is layed out as follows;

  • Il titolo con l'introduzione - The Title with the Introduction
  • Alcune domande - Some Questions
  • Parole di Risposta - Words for Answers
  • Fare Risposte - Making Answers
  • La Note - The Notes

The sub-menu now on the left for these pages is a constant reminder of all the "interrogative" words available.

These words are normally called "interrogative adjectives" by linguists, but clearly this is a bit nuts because where as we say "The red ball" to tell us something extra about the ball, "red" being an adjective, we say "What ball?" to get more information about the existence of a ball that was previously mentioned. The only thing "red" and "what" have in common is that they can both be placed before the word "ball" in this sentence structure. So I would prefer to call these words "Interrogatives" or in common speak "Question Words".

you dont always need to use an interrogative word to ask a question. Here are some questions not using interogatives and some using interogatives.
